Commodity Channel Index (CCI) Quotes
 The Commodity Channel Index
(CCI) is used in technical analysis to recognize new trends and to warn about
extreme conditions when trend reversal could be expected. The Commodity Channel
index defines position of the current price in relation to the price moving
average. Respectfully, positive CCI readings would indicate price moving above
price average and negative CCI readings would indicate price movement below
price average.

About Commodity Channel Index.
Commodity Channel Index (CCI) is calculated in three steps:
- calculate simple moving
average of typical price for selected period;
- for each bar in selected period calculate difference between previously
calculated moving average and the bar's typical price;
- calculate mean deviation as a sum absolute values of deviations received
in previous step and divide it by the number of bars in selected period;
- calculate Commodity Channel Index by following formula:
CCI = (Typical Price - SMA of TP) / (0.015 x Mean Deviation)
There are two most common ways in technical analysis of using Commodity Channel Index
- to confirm a beginning of a new uptrend or downtrend and as a leading
indicator to define moments when an analyzed security is predisposed to a trend
reversal.
CCI surges above +100 reflect strong price movement that could serve as a
signals of the possibility of the begining of an uptrend. Plunges below -100 reflect weak price
movement which may signal the beginning of an downtrend.
At the same time, chartists can look for overbought or oversold levels and bullish and bearish divergences
with anticipation of trend reversals.
