Nasdaq Canada Components

The NASDAQ Canada Index (^CDN) covers Canadian companies that are publicly-traded on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange. Since November 2000, NASDAQ Canada, an affiliate of the U.S. NASDAQ Stock Market (NASDAQ), has provided services to Canadian investors through terminals installed in a number of Canadian securities firms, which provide direct access to all NASDAQ-listed securities. In addition, a NASDAQ Canada index was created to measure the performance of all NASDAQ-listed Canadian stocks. Originally operating only in Montréal, NASDAQ Canada received authorization in November 2003 to expand into British Columbia. However, NASDAQ subsequently indicated that it has abandoned plans to eventually establish a full-fledged exchange in Canada that would compete for listings with the Toronto Stock Exchange.

NASDAQ Canada Index Components

In January 2009, about 49 Canadian companies were included on the NASDAQ Canada index. Such companies as Research in Motion Limited (RIMM), GSI Group, Inc. (GSIG), Pan American Silver Corp. (PAAS), Open Text Corporation (OTEX), and Silver Standard Resources, Inc. (SSRI) are some of the largest companies in the index basket.
